Contact and Match

Steelwrist contacted us in 2015 with a desire to rebuild their web. Their previous site was outdated and difficult to navigate. They wanted more autonomy and had problems with the fact that some crucial customer functionality stopped working from time to time.

We identified early on that we were a good match for each other. Steelwrist was in need of a reliable and long-term solution which was financially reasonable for them . Thanks to shared development costs, both parties were able to get good synergy effects from the collaboration. Steelwrist got top-notch technology at a good price and we were able to develop our technology together with Steelwrist.

Guiding users to the right market

Steelwrist has a market in 14 countries and counting. On their previous website they had a problem with customers finding products that wasn’t compatible with excavators available in their country.

SOLUTION

Let users choose but also guide them

A design principle I have is to give the user maximum control and gently but firmly guide them if we believe that they are in the wrong place. No one likes being forced somewhere out of assumption.

Upon visiting steelwrist.com for the first time the user is always granted the choice to select country/market. If the user has made a choice this will be saved.

If the user for example gets a direct link or goes to a subpage of another than the chosen market, the user will receive a notice.

If the user goes directly to a subpage without having made a language selection, the market of the subpage is checked against the country that the user is browsing from with GEO location and IP. If it doesn’t match the market, the visitor receives a notice.

Finding Products

Steelwrist wanted an easy way for their costumers to be able to find products matching their excavator. Steelwrist products are matched with weights of excavators. Thanks to this connection we didn’t have to match every single excavator to the products, just the weight.

We created two different ways for costumers to find the right products:

1. Filtering in products

The first way to find matching products is through the main navigation, either through Product overview or through a product category. Once there the user can choose to text search for their excavator or to use a slider to enter the weight of their excavator.

2. Your excavator

The second way is to enter through “Your excavator”. On this page, Steelwrist can target info to customers of every excavator brand. Here the user can text search for their excavator or find it through categories.

 

SEO Benefits
All the models of the excavators are written out under the categories which is beneficial in a SEO point of view. Thanks to this Steelwrist is highly ranked in search results for an excavator model name + Tiltrotator. We are currently making landingpages for every model to improve this further.

Service Partners

It was important that Steelwrist customers easily could find the closest Service Partner. Consider that a customer is out in the field with a broken tiltrotator and needs to get it repaired as soon as possible. The customer can then navigate to Service Partners via links on the start page or in the menu. Once there, the customer can either choose “Find My Location” or enter it themselves. Service partners are then ranked by proximity and the customer can easily choose the nearest one. Clicking on a service partner reveals contact details and a link to Google maps directions from the customer’s current location.
